Ages 4–7

Little Warriors

Forty-five minutes of coordination, balance and listening, dressed up as kickboxing. The first rung of the ladder, and the one everything else is built on.

Fun and interactive rather than drilled, but it is still the real thing underneath: distance, timing, controlled movement, and the basics of points fighting and continuous kickboxing. Discipline and respect for the people they train with come as part of it.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4pm, 45 minutes. They move up into Juniors when they are ready.

Junior Kickboxing

The biggest programme in the club, and the one most members come through. Beginners have their own class, so nobody starts at the deep end.

Two disciplines run side by side: points fighting, which is fast, tactical and about precision, and continuous kickboxing, which is about endurance and stringing combinations together. Sport karate and freestyle sessions sit alongside them, and there is a separate sparring slot once a coach says you are ready.

Beginners Monday to Friday at 5pm. Main class Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5pm; sport karate and freestyle Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm; sparring Monday at 6.10pm and Tuesday at 5pm.

Technical drills, conditioning, pad work and controlled sparring, across both points fighting and continuous kickboxing. Complete beginners and experienced martial artists train in the same room; the coaching is what changes, not the class.

Monday at 7.10pm, Wednesday and Friday at 6.10pm. Adults sparring Monday at 7.10pm, adults sport karate Thursday at 7.10pm.

Technical drills, pad work and conditioning, with controlled sparring there if you want it and not if you don’t. Self-defence and the confidence that comes with it are the reason most people walk in; a few end up competing.

Bag 2 Beats

Kickboxing striking on the heavy bags, timed to music. No sparring, nobody hits you, and you will still be finished by the end.

Bag rounds, bodyweight work, conditioning drills and core, with coaches keeping an eye on technique so you are not grinding bad habits in. Complete beginners and people who are already very fit both get something out of it, because you set your own pace on the bag.

Fight Team

The competitive squad. National, European and world championships are the point of it, and the training is intense and disciplined by design.

Points fighting for speed, reactions and tactics; continuous kickboxing for stamina, technique and control over longer bouts. There is no formal entry requirement — the coaches are looking for people who are ambitious, dedicated and want to be tested.

Fight team sessions are not on the open timetable. Speak to a coach if this is what you are after.

About The Academy

Members Call It
The Den.

WKO Llanelli is one of four Welsh Kickboxing Organisation academies, and it has put students on the podium at national, European and world level. That is the top of the ladder. The bottom of it is a four-year-old learning to stand still for ten seconds on a Tuesday afternoon, and the club is built so that both happen in the same room.

Fun, fitness, self-defence or competition — you pick which one you came for, and nobody pushes you up the ladder faster than you want to go.

Myself and both my son’s (10 and 7) joined the WKO Team January 2020 just prior to the covid lockdowns, throughout this time Leigh and Tennessee carried out zoom training to keep our spirits up and since we’ve been back at the Den it’s like we’ve never been away.

An absolutely amazing club with first class instructor’s and team support. Myself (35) and my son (14) live an hour away and travel down to train as much as possible. We are always made to feel very welcome and part of the team.
